Fo Guang University Student Lin Chi-Chi Honored at 2024 National College Simulation Camp on Foreign Affairs and National Security
Lin Chi-Chi, a student from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at Fo Guang University, participated in the “2024 National University Simulation Camp on Foreign Affairs and National Security” held on January 17–18. He successfully earned a completion certificate and was honored with the Outstanding Participant Award.
The event featured five delegations representing the United States, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Russia. Lin was assigned to the Russia team—a group he was less familiar with. “Being placed in a less familiar delegation meant I had to prepare even more thoroughly in advance,” Lin reflected.
The camp included keynote speeches, decision-making simulations, negotiation rounds, and a mock international press conference. Focusing on West Pacific regional issues, each delegation was tasked with devising national strategies and responding to dynamic geopolitical developments while maintaining their assigned country’s core interests. The simulation thoroughly tested participants’ policymaking abilities and diplomatic responsiveness.
“The process of crafting proposals involved constantly making assumptions and evaluating their feasibility,” said Lin. He actively engaged in discussions and volunteered to lead negotiations with the U.S. delegation. Despite encountering multiple setbacks, he remained committed to the principle of “maximizing national interest” and gained a deeper understanding of the complexity and volatility of current international affairs.
The Outstanding Participant Award was selected by the advisors and mentors assigned to each group, recognizing students who demonstrated exceptional performance. Lin expressed gratitude for the honor and for the thoughtful organization of the event by Tamkang University’s Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies. He emphasized how much he learned and encouraged fellow students to make full use of such valuable opportunities for growth.
